How to Measure Your Ring Size

How to Measure Ring Size

When looking for the perfect ring, many people are unaware of how to measure their ring size to ensure the right fit. Luckily it is fairly quick and easy to measure your ring size at home , so you are able to shop and try on as many rings as you’d like with comfort and ease. All you need is one of your existing rings, a measuring tape or alternatively, a piece of string and a ruler. Just follow the 3 easy steps below, and you’ll have your perfect ring size in no time!

Find a comfortable existing ring!

The first thing you’ll want to do is locate one of your existing rings that fits your desired finger comfortably. It should be firm on your finger so not to slip past the knuckle but not tight enough it pinches the skin or cuts circulation.

Grab your tape measure!

Once you have your usual ring, place it flat on a solid surface. With your tape measure or ruler, measure the inner diameter of the ring from one side to the other. Alternatively, take a piece of string and wrap it around the finger you want to measure. Take note of where the string meets and make a mark.

Unwrap the string so it is straight and lay it perpindicular to a ruler. The length of the string to your mark will be your circumference. You can also use a tape measure if you own one to do this, marking the tape at where it overlaps.

Compare your measurements to a size chart!

Once you have your measurements, you can compare them to a ring size chart like the one we’ve created below. If you know your ring size in US or EU sizing, you can also find your AU equivalent.

If your ring measurements are between two sizes, it is best to choose the slightly larger one to avoid any discomfort and allow the ring to pass easily along the length of the whole finger. You may also choose to record these two sizes, and try both on instore to confirm which size suits you best.

Important Tips!

Your finger circumference can change depending on the time of day and also the weather! To make sure you are getting the most honest measurement of your finger, we recommend measuring towards the end of the day in your home when you are at a comfortable temperature. Make sure your fingers are not overly hot or cold!
