What is Mokume Gane?

What is Mokume Gane?
Mokume Gane is the art of layering, fusing and patterning different metals

Developed in Japan 400 years ago, the technique was created to make parts of the handle for Samurai swords.  The process involves layering coloured metals together under intense heat & pressure. The resulting billet of metal is then hand-forged to create unique patterns.

The process is incredibly labour intensive but the results are well worth it. A single Mokume Gane ring can take up to 8 hours to create and no two pieces are ever the same. Mokume Gane pieces can beautifully symbolise the unique, entwined love of two people.

We have the largest selection of Mokume Gane colour combinations in the world, which we attribute to our thirst for knowledge and reckless pursuit of beauty. A lot of precious metal was scrapped in the creation of each combination.
We make all kinds of jewellery with our Mokume Gane, most commonly wedding rings but engagement rings, earrings, necklaces and cufflinks are just some of the other pieces we love to create with these beautiful colours.
